Representing Oman at IPU 141, delegation members Hon.Dr.Rayya and Hon.Eng. Naashiah to participate in Youth Forum and ‘Women Parliamentarians’ Forum

State Council members- Hon.Rayya Salim Said Al Manthari and Hon.Eng.Naashiah Saud Mohamed Al Kharoosi are to participate in the meetings of the Forum of Young Parliamentarians and the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, as Sultanate's delegation members to the 141st session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Belgrade between 12-17 October.
The Forum of Young Parliamentarians will discuss recent global and regional developments in youth participation, progress in this regard, current challenges, draw conclusions and make recommendations.
Forum members will also exchange views from a youth perspective on the theme of the 141st General Assembly, which is “Strengthening International Law: Parliamentary Roles and Mechanisms”, and the Contribution of Regional Cooperation”. It will also discuss the draft resolution under consideration in the General Assembly entitled “Achieving Universal health coverage by 2030: the role of parliaments in ensuring the right to health.”
The discussions will include activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) since April 2019 to support youth participation and future activities in this context.
The items on the Standing Committees' agenda during the 142nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will come up for review.
In addition, the Forum will discuss good practices in youth policy-making and the role of parliaments in promoting policies and enacting laws that contribute to youth empowerment.
The program of the 30th session of the Parliamentary Women Forum, which will start on Sunday includes the election of the Chairperson of the session and discussion of activities aimed at promoting gender equality.
Further on, it will dIscuss activities to promote gender equality, review the report of the Office of Women Parliamentarians, the report of the Partnership between Men and Women, as well as updates on IPU activities to promote gender equality.
A panel discussion entitled “Elimination of Discrimination in Law” will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
The seminar will focus on the role of parliaments in gender equality legislation, and present and discuss the Equal Law Initiative for Women and Girls by 2030, a multi-tasking strategy for urgent action launched by UN-Women in partnership with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The delegation representing the Sultanate of Oman headed by Eng.Mohammed bin Abu Bakr Al-Ghassani, Vice-Chairman of Majlis A’Shura also includes delegation members from Majlis A’Shura, Eng. Sheikh Ali bin Nasser Al Mahrouqi, Secretary General of Majlis A’Shura and members - HE.Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Haddabi, HE.Rashid bin Ali Al Hassani and HE.Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Omari.
