Hon.Dr.Rayya Bint Salem Al Manthari, Member of the State Council represented the Arab Group at the Forum of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on Monday in Belgrade.

IPU focus: Youth issues and Health insurance for provision of health services
She stressed the need to focus on youth issues such as search for work, stimulate innovation and creativity and support the knowledge-based economy and discussed in depth the practical remedies.
Hon.Rayya called for considering the possibility of finding an appropriate solution to the different issues of the youth, which differ from one place to another and from one institution to another, in order to unify their support efforts.
Meanwhile, Eng.Naashiah Bint Saud Al Kharoosi, , State Council Member participated in the meetings of the Forum of Parliamentary Women and the subgroup of the Forum.
In the General Budget of the State, Health was ranked second for allocations after the education sector.
She explained that for women, access to health services is available and easy to access, pointing out that health services are free for the citizens in Sultanate and that the legislation requires the private sector to provide health services to expatriates working in the sector. She pointed out that in the future it will provide health insurance for expatriate workers. The first phase, is expected to include at a later stage coverage of citizens working in the private sector.
Al-Kharoosi said that the current challenges require taking into consideration the sustainability of the provision of health services to all citizens, including the elderly whose numbers are expected to increase, which will increase the cost of providing health services.
She proposed the establishment of a committee within the Inter-Parliamentary Union to monitor initiatives and steps adopted by national parliaments to achieve this goal.
The importance of establishing a special committee within national parliaments to follow up and assess the extent to which existing and proposed legislation took into account the gender dimension was also discussed to ensure that discrimination against women is avoided in these laws.
The delegation representing the Sultanate of Oman headed by Eng.Mohammed bin Abu Bakr Al-Ghassani, Vice-Chairman of Majlis A’Shura also includes delegation members from Majlis A’Shura, Eng. Sheikh Ali bin Nasser Al Mahrouqi, Secretary General of Majlis A’Shura and members - HE.Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Haddabi, HE.Rashid bin Ali Al Hassani and HE.Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Omari.
