Following the High Orders, State Council to start 1st Ordinary Session of the 1st Annual Sitting of 7th Term tomorrow

In response to the high orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, State Council will hold its 1st Ordinary Session of the 1st Annual Sitting of 7th Term (2019-2023) on Thursday.
Chaired by HE.Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Manthri, State Council Chairman, the session will commence with his opening speech, followed by a review of the requirements of the session, which includes several procedures.
The honorable members of the State Council will take oath as stipulated by the Article (58) (bis 20) of Basic Law of the State.
The agenda of the session includes the election of two Vice Chairmen from amongst the honorable members wishing to stand for office in accordance with the stipulations of Article 58 bis (4) of the Basic Statute of the State. It states that, the State Council shall at its first session, elect from amongst its members, for a duration identical to its term, two deputies for the Chairman. If the seat of either of them falls vacant, the Council shall elect members to replace him until the end of its term. In all cases, the election is by direct secret vote and the absolute majority of the members of the Council.
During the session, four members will be elected to the Council's Bureau, which will be chaired by the Council’s Chairman and will be additionally constituted by the two Vice Chairmen of the Council.
The procedures include announcement of the opening of the candidacy for membership of the standing committees and the Council Bureau will coordinate the list of committee members amongst the candidates, taking into account the interest, specialisation and expertise in the field of the activity of each committee, and each committee will elect a Head and Deputy Head.
